I have a fairly large Walnut tree in my garden in France and last year collected several carrier bags full of nuts which when the shells had been removed produced two large bowls full of nuts that were great and went very well with slices of Jamón ibérico as a little pre dinner something.

This year we have a specially good Jamón Ibérico de Bellota  and I was looking forward to enjoying it accompanied by my own walnuts.

However on arrival in France and inspection under the tree, very few nuts to be found.

And this morning I now know why.

Awaiting harvest.

Nearby are several other trees along the side of a little road and along a farm track so I managed to collect quite a lot of nuts and they are now shelled and ready to eat. Continue reading →
