An attractive restaurant just a short way up a side street leading off the main harbour, decked out in nautical fashion with nets and pictures of lighthouses.
It offers a selection of formules and we went for the Formule Matelot which allowed a choice of starter and main course from their a la carte Menu Gourmande.
A light and well flavoured fromage blanc accompanied our bread before we had ordered.
My starter was Salad Landaise which consisted of a salad of fresh and well seasoned leaves topped with a generous helping of gesiers and smoked duck. Alan went for the cassoulet of snails which was well flavoured and was accompanied with good crusty bread to soak up the sauce,
I had a cassoulet of salmon and smoked haddock to follow topped with a few mussels. The fish was plentiful and the sauce was very tasty. Alan chose the pave of beef. The beef was of good quality and perfectly cooked but he found the sauce a bit bland, Both were accompanied by a little terrine of mashed potato – which annoyed Alan as he had difficulty in getting the last bit out of the dish! – and grilled tomato.
The coffee came with a full jar of marshmallows which was a nice touch.
Service was smooth and efficient and the meal with a carafe of wine and coffee came to 48 euros.
A good restaurant if not entirely exceptional.
