A centrally placed restaurant just off the main street of Saintes, the Cour National.  We enjoyed a lunch there on a rare sunny day in October with friends and were able to take advantage of the large covered terrace.

The midday menu du jour offered salmon salad to start – we were as a group divided on the dressing – some of our number thought it a bit too salty but I thought it was very good.

For the main course – for which there were two choices of fish and two of meat, two of us went for the dorade which was an excellent whole fish very well cooked and seasoned, and two went for beef fillet which was fairly small but very tender and cooked exactly as requested.

The dessert was a very attractively presented fruit crumble.

The menu represented good value at 14 euros 50.  Service was faultless and very friendly and all in all this was a very pleasant eating experience – obviously not a well kept secret as the restaurant filled rapidly between 12.30 and 1.00 with what looked to be the local office workers!

The service was very good and very friendly and I would certainly visit again.
