This pretty restaurant is situated in the heart of the lovely town of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne and has the benefit of a large well laid out terrace with a view which immediately tempts you in on a sunny day. Happily the food turned out to be just as good as the ambience which no doubt helps to explain why it was pretty well full on a Thursday lunchtime in September.
We went there with friends and between us we sampled a wide selection of their dishes all of which were well received. I had the Menu du Jour which consisted of a mozzarella and tomato salad enlivened by a generous dressing of freshly made pesto followed by ribs of pork with a mildly spicy coating. The pork was as moist and tender as you could possibly wish for. I finished with a rich chocolate tart which had a sufficient hint of bitterness to avoid being too sweet.
Alan had the fish soup which he enjoyed followed by an enormous perigourdine salad very generously topped with duck breast, gesiers and foie gras. Our friends confirmed that their choices of chevre chaud salad, beef and duck also passed the test of excellence.
Service was friendly and efficient. The bill for four with wine and coffee came to 100 euros which is middle range pricing for a high range meal.
