Last year, every night about 400 tried to get across the channel.
It is estimated that up to 50 were successful each night.
That means as many as 18,250 entered the UK illegally last year.
If the border control was in Dover then they could all board a boat and arrive in Dover so long as they had £29 for a single fare foot passenger ticket.
Leaving the EU would not stop migrants entering the UK. It would make it very likely to happen.
Leaving the EU would mean we could stop members of the EU countries entering the UK and at present that is a net migration of 33,000 a year from ‘Eastern European countries’
So we could stop 33,000 eastern Europeans per year but we would have to receive 5,000 to 6,000 migrants from the Calais area immediately the day the border control post returns to Dover
Then all the other migrants who turn up in Calais and who have £29 in their pocket for a ticket could get on the next boat and arrive in Dover…… and given the numbers arriving every day in Southern Europe, plus the reluctance of mainland European countries to offer them a permanent home then how many would that be, week on week? Last year some 1,000,000 people crossed the Mediterranean illegally into Europe and many of these will make their way up through the usual European routes to the UK. This year the numbers will almost certainly massively increase.
Now it is not my view that we should build a wall round the UK and make the Mexicans pay for it and not let anyone in, However if your view is that a vote to leave the EU will stop ‘foreigners’ coming into Europe then think again.
