Village Flottant6Poitou-Charentes has loads of attractions, I am now talking about attractions in the sense of places that have been created, like the Futuroscope or the Vallee des Singes. Not your every day run of the mill Charente river or Fouras or the  Isle d’Oleron or the villages like Talmont and Coulon to name just two ……

A new addition to the created attractions list is just outside the village of Pressac on the Etang du Ponteil. This is the floating village and floating restaurant.  It is not the Isle Flottant as I called it. That is some awful dessert which is half-cooked meringue on runny custard.

We went along recently to have a look, thinking it might be a fun night out when the grandchildren turn up in the summer.Village Flottant5

You can opt to stay there or simply have a meal. Just having the meal is the cheaper option and you can have it on one of the floating restaurants, which will accommodate up to 8 people. However it still works out quite expensive at 29 Euros per adult and 15 Euros per child.Village Flottant8

Staying on one of the floating cabins would be good but then the prices really go up. these are 109 euros for couples, and 159 Euros for a family of up to 5 persons. Combining that with a meal and you are going to be paying a lot of money for a night on the water.Village Flottant7

Still it does sound like fun and maybe for a romantic weekend for two then it would be OK but for Nanny and Grandad, and son and daughter and two grandchildren then I can think of better ways to say goodbye to over 400 EurosVillage Flottant4

As you can see from the photos, the day we visited was quite dramatic, we just avoided the rain.Village Flottant2

If you are interested the restaurant is 07 86 06 12 50 and the cabins can be booked on 05 86 16 02 25.
