In the first 50 years of the 20th century the countries of western Europe were at war with one another for 10 of those years.EU flag

In Western Europe approximately 17,000,000 people were killed in the 1914-1918 conflict.

Approximately 14,600,000 from western Europe  were killed in the 1939-1945 conflict. ( far more if you include Russia, Japan America, Canada, India and many others)

That’s a total of  31,600, 000 people                                  (THIRTY ONE  MILLION)

In the second half of the 20th century  there were no wars between European community members.

Some western Europeans were killed in conflicts in other parts of the world, but not millions.

The cooperation between western European countries began in 1945 and developed via the European Economic Community (EEC) and then the European Union (EU), throughout the second half of the twentieth century.
