The referendum on Britain’s continued membership of the European Union (EU) is almost certainly the most important vote that will occur in most of our lives. Maybe if you were born before 1957 and voted in the 1975 referendum, and that could arguably be as important. Anyway the consequences of a no vote now are huge. Some would say the same for a yes vote.
I believe that voting to leave the EU would be a mistake, how big a mistake we will only find out if the No vote wins. It will also take a period of some decades to find the full extent of a decision to leave.
Unfortunately, most of us do not know very much about the advantages and disadvantages of being a member of the EU. One cannot believe a lot of what the politicians tell us, even less of what many of the papers tell us, and then we have what I would call ‘pub talk’ which is rarely backed up by facts.
So I will attempt between now and 23rd June to get you to think a bit more about what you are voting for. Watch this space.
