Festival des Cerf-volant – Kite festival – 30 March–1 April 2013
This is Kite surfing a combination of surfing and kite flying, not for the faint hearted.
Easter weekend marks the opening of the beach season at Châtelaillon Plage near la Rochelle. 3km of golden sands provide the perfect place for one of France’s premiere kite festivals.
In 2013, the Festival des Cerf-volants will be celebrating its 20th anniversary so promises to be even bigger and better than ever before. Highlights include the flying of giant kites at night with music, lights and dance, as well as demonstrations of the latest beach kite sports and activities. You can learn to make a kite, take your turn at flying a kite or even kite surf yourself. Watch experts make the kites dance to music and enjoy the exhilarating sport of rokkaku combat when traditional six-sided Japanese fighting kites spar high above the sands.
Lasting for three days, the kite festival is a great opportunity for you to get to know the delightful beach resort itself. You can also enjoy the casino on the seafront promenade or relax in the thalassotherapy spa. La Rochelle centre is nearby and you can enjoy the delicacies of the region with a visit to the traditional village of Les Boucholeurs to discover the local mussles and oysters. But wrap up warm as we have asked for it to be very windy!
