Charroux is my local town, although I don’t go there that often being too busy out and about taking photos and sampling the delights of all the other wonderful places in Poitou-Charentes. I should perhaps spend more time there. The river Charente flows through the village and I do sometimes have a few hours fishing on a plesant stretch just on the edge of the town.

The most famous feature is the Charlemagne tower which is a sizeable remnant of the former abbey. However there are other notable features such as the Halle which is quite substantial and mot used to its full potential. There are some old timber framed houses and a very good restaurant run by Pierre Martel, called Le Charlemagne….how did they come up with that name?  There are also two bars where you can enjoy a beer and the view of the tower at the same time.
