Here we have the prestigious Poitou-Charentes Photographic awards of 2012. These are rather like some curry establishments which have certificates and awards on their walls proclaiming that their establishment won ‘Best Curry in East Anglia for 2010′ and then says very little about who awarded it.
I have chosen 12 photos from this blog, one for each month which represent the best photos for 2012 – so here they are.
And the award for January goes to a photo of our local wine which is very suitable for the long winter nights.
February had some quite cold spells and this excellent photo sums up that month.
March photo of the month is a wonderfully colourful study of marker bouys and associated marine junk.
In April we have a shot taken on the river Vienne at a place called Assit near Manot. To all you Brits thinking of visiting, that blue sky is real - no Photoshop in any of these award winning photos.
For May’s selection it is a shot of pure tranquility taken in Civray when I was taking shots of the church but could not resist sneaking a shot of this gentleman enjoying a morning’s fishing. Thank you Monsieur.
In June we ( well I actually) have selected a shot taken on the platform of the station at Poitiers. A good way to arrive in Poitou-Charentes…. avoids the Irish airline.
July is a stunning shot of my local village, Charroux. More blue sky.
On to August and we have a vibrant photo which captures the multinational essence of the Confolens Music Festival.
September and it’s the Circuit des Remparts at Angouleme and the Rallye de Charente.
October’s selection is a nice study of a migrant butterfly called a Long-tailed Blue. It’s not only Brits who descend on this part of France.
November. This photo was taken by the poitoucharentesinphotos team (me) but unfortunately not in France and not in the wild.
December, and the last star photo for 2012 which was taken in Rochefort looking across to the Port de Plaisance.
Please note that all these photos were taken by the poitoucharentesinphotos team (Alan Waterman) and they are selected from the posts that were placed on the blog in the month denoted. However that does not mean to say the photograph was taken in that month, though normally it was.
Please comment on the selection and say which you consider to be the best. Thank you and enjoy the photos for 2013.

Lovely photos! May particularly; the lighting is so beautiful. Coincidentally most of the photos in the post of mine you commented on were taken in France too: around Roquefort-les-Pins, if you know it. I’m really missing that weather right now!
Yes its my favourite too, I saw the potential and luckilly I had my camera on a tripod so I set everything up but was pointing the camera away from the man fishing, then when all was ready and he had just cast out so was busy watching his float I swung the camer round and clicked off a few shots. Bit naughty but still.
For me, top prize goes to the Leaning Tower of Charroux, second is the “Mood” shot of the fisherman near Civray, and third the beautifully focussed Robin. Gordon Toumaniantz, St Maigrin
Is it leaning? having had a close look at the photo I have noticed a couple of dust blemishes …….whoops.
Great photographs, so a difficult choice but the robin is my favourite with the long-tailed blue coming a very close second. No surprise, eh Alan?
OK the same ones are being choosen by everyone and I can see why.
All of them are great. Congrats, “poitoucharentesinphotos team”
The team thanks you ! and we all wish you a happy New Year.
